When the thyroid gland is overactive, or when there is too much of thyroid hormone in the body, it is known as hyperthyroidism. The most common reason behind hyperthyroidism is overproduction of thyroid hormone produced by thyroid gland. This condition is also known as Graves disease, when hyperactive thyroid symptoms are noticed and this type of hyperthyroidism tends to run in families, especially in women. The antibodies in the blood stimulate the thyroid to grow and the enlarged thyroid secretes too much of thyroid hormone. The most common cause of hyperactive thyroid symptoms in children is Graves disease. In other type of situation, which is known as toxic nodular or multi-nodular goiter, one or more nodules or lumps in the thyroid gradually grow and their increased activity leads to the increased output of thyroid hormone into the blood. Sometimes, hyperactive thyroid symptoms are noticed temporarily, when there is some kind of viral infection causing the gland to leak more thyroid hormone. This can be due to the disorder in immune system and this situation is known as thyroiditis. Too much of thyroid hormone intake through tablets can cause thyroiditis.

Sex Feels the Credit Squeeze in Nevada

Sex Feels the Credit Squeeze in Nevada

Takings and customers have slumped at the state's licensed brothels, writes Andrew Clark

Nobody in the business world has emerged unscathed from the financial carnage wreaked by the global recession. That includes those who ply their trade entirely legally - in the world's oldest profession.

Nevada is famous for its licensed brothels, which originally catered for miners and cowboys working in the sun-scorched desert. Now a lure for lascivious tourists, they have suffered a plunge in earnings as men become parsimonious about their spending on sex.

In good years, Nevada's 25 or so bordellos pulled in as much as $50m (Ј30m) in revenue. But George Flint, director of the Nevada Brothel Owners' Association, says takings at the state's worst-hit establishments have slumped by 60% to 70%, and even the most robust have suffered to the tune of at least 20%.

Sex Shouldn’t Be Embarrassing

Marital sex is probably one of the most lied about topics in modern society. Around the office cooler, very few men will admit that they are having ‘performance’ problems. Yet, it is a fact that very few couples have ‘perfect’ sex lives – and a great many who do have problems, or inadequate knowledge, are too embarrassed to admit it or ask for solutions. Some try to ‘learn’ by watching porn films, but that often exacerbates the problem. For example, the studs in those films are able to keep going for up to a half hour at a time. Trying to emulate that performance would leave most men with a serious inferiority complex.

A common misconception, when it comes to Attention Deficit Disorder, is that it is one in the same with hyperactivity. However, this is far from the truth. While people with ADD may exhibit signs of hyperactivity, it is not an inherent trait of the disorder and often does not occur with sufferers of ADD.

Hyperactivity is a general term referring to excessive and/or pathological activeness. This term is often used erroneously for an active person that does not meet the excessive criteria. It is important to understand that all children are active to a certain extent, and that some are even extremely active. However, this does not necessarily constitute hyperactivity. A hyperactive person will seem to be driven to movement, making it almost impossible to sit still. If sitting, they will often fidget or talk excessively as a countermeasure. Hyperactivity is often difficult to assess in adults; however, children are much easier to diagnose.
